Founded in 1993, Astrup Fearnley Museet is one of Scandinavia’s most notable museums for contemporary art. The museum holds the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection, and presents changing exhibitions that draw on the collection as well as debut new commissions by artists from all over the world.
During this year’s Studentslipp event, you can visit the new collection exhibition showcasing newly acquired works from the past five years, well-known classics, and iconic works!
Among the recent acquisitions currently on view are Fleet (2024) by Nina Beier and Nicole Eisenman’s monumental Perpetual Motion Machine (2019), as well as works by Synnøve Anker Aurdal, Jeff Koons, Isabella Ducrot, Robert Grosvenor, Britta Marakatt-Labba, and Odd Nerdrum’s iconic painting The Murder of Andreas Baader (1977–1978).
You can also experience Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme’s powerful video installation Oh Shining Star Testify (2016–2019), now part of the collection following the Palestinian artist duo’s exhibition at the museum in 2023.
Designed by Renzo Piano the museum spans two buildings bisected by a canal, and is situated on the Oslofjord in the Tjuvholmen neighborhood of central Oslo, next to Tjuvholmen Sculpture Park and beach
New students can visit Astrup Fearnley Museet free of charge during Studentslippet.
