Experience some of the most amazing objects from the Norwegian Viking Age, such as one of the only existing Viking helmets in the world, Viking swords, gold jewellery. Come face to face with sculptures from Antiquity, explore the Egyptian mummies and other fascinating objects from all over the world. Gain insight into wonderfully diverse cultures from across the world through the museum’s ethnographic exhibitions, including collections from Roald Amundsens expedition through the Northwest Passage.
Students are invited to a free guided tour of the new exhibition “Control – Attempting to Tame the World”. The exhibition displays objects from the Stone Age up to present day which speak to human kind’s increasing control over nature through the ages. Considering how the world is evolving today, with deforestation, endangered species and climate crisis, are we humans really in control as we like to think we are?
