Astrup Fearnley Museet ble grunnlagt i 1993 og er et av Nordens fremste museer for samtidskunst. Museet forvalter den omfattende Astrup Fearnley Samlingen og presenterer skiftende utstillinger både med verk fra samlingen og nye produksjoner av kunstnere fra hele verden.
I 2012 flyttet museet fra Dronningensgate 4 i Kvadraturen i Oslo til Tjuvholmen, der det nå er vakkert plassert ved Oslofjorden i et bygg som forener kunst, natur og urbanitet tegnet av den verdenskjente arkitekten Renzo Piano. Astrup Fearnley Museet består av to bygg plassert på hver sin side av en kanal. I bygget nærmest fjorden vises skiftende utstillinger med ledende internasjonal og norsk samtidskunst. I bygget over kanalen vises et stadig roterende utvalg av verk fra Astrup Fearnley Samlingen. Samlingen inkluderer betydelige verk av kunstnere som Matthew Barney, Paul Chan, Trisha Donnelly, Félix González-Torres, Rachel Harrison, Anselm Kiefer, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Glenn Ligon, Bjarne Melgaard, Julie Mehretu, Richard Prince og Cindy Sherman.

The Astrup Fearnley Museum was founded in 1993 and is one of the Nordic countries’ foremost museums for contemporary art. The museum manages the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection and presents changing exhibitions both with works from the collection and new productions by artists from all over the world.
In 2012, the museum moved from Dronningensgate 4 at Kvadraturen in Oslo to Tjuvholmen, where it is now beautifully located by the Oslofjord in a building that unites art, nature and urbanity designed by the world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. The Astrup Fearnley Museum consists of two buildings located on opposite sides of a canal. In the building closest to the fjord, changing exhibitions of leading international and Norwegian contemporary art are shown. In the building above the canal, a constantly rotating selection of works from the Astrup Fearnley Collection is displayed. The collection includes significant works by artists such as Matthew Barney, Paul Chan, Trisha Donnelly, Félix González-Torres, Rachel Harrison, Anselm Kiefer, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Glenn Ligon, Bjarne Melgaard, Julie Mehretu, Richard Prince and Cindy Sherman.
